Daniel Rocks is a lifelong competitive equestrian. He was raised in the Connecticut countryside where he was introduced to riding at the age of four. He rode hunters as a child and adolescent before being coerced onto the polo field by legendary Connecticut coach Hal Vita. When he was sidelined by injury he sought out dressage as means to “ease” into riding again.
“I really thought it would be no problem to just sit and ride around and get my balance back. It’s embarrassing how arrogantly I dismissed the true challenge of this sport. Becoming a skilled dressage rider is the most humbling and rewarding endeavor I have ever embarked upon.” DR
Daniel fell in love with the feeling of surmounting the endless physical and psychological obstacles presented by dressage. He decided to put himself in full time training and has spent many years in competition and sales barns committed to pursuance of a world class education. He has traveled extensively enjoying opportunities to study with and ride professionally for multiple international level German, Dutch and American dressage trainers.
Having settled in beautiful Marin County Daniel has combined his formal dressage education and strong work ethic with a common sense approach to training and formed Daniel Rocks Dressage. Operating out of American Canyon Training Center and Toyon Farm in Napa California Daniel’s program focuses on the fundamentals of dressage training. He places a strong emphasis on the genius of the training scale in strength training, responsiveness and coordination.
“I have developed a firm belief in the limitless power of correct dressage training to enhance horses of all disciplines and riders of any ability.” DR
